Motherhood and healing

Hi there,

Today, I want to talk about a topic that many mothers can relate to: achieving mindfulness while dealing with PTSD and navigating the journey of self-discovery. Being a mother is a beautiful and rewarding experience, but it can also be overwhelming at times. Throw in the challenges of PTSD and the need to figure out your own identity, and it can feel like an uphill battle. However, I believe that with a mindful approach, it is possible to find balance and cultivate self-awareness amidst the chaos.

1. Embrace self-compassion: As a mother dealing with PTSD, it's essential to be gentle with yourself. Recognize that you are doing the best you can, and it's okay to have difficult days. Practice self-compassion by acknowledging your emotions and giving yourself permission to take breaks when needed. Remember, you cannot pour from an empty cup.

2. Prioritize self-care: Self-care is crucial for maintaining your well-being as a mother and an individual. Set aside dedicated time for activities that rejuvenate and nourish your mind, body, and soul. It could be as simple as taking a walk, practicing yoga, or indulging in a hobby you enjoy. Remember, you deserve to prioritize yourself and your needs.

3. Seek support: It's important to build a support system around you. Reach out to trusted friends, family, or support groups who can provide understanding and empathy. Consider seeking professional help from therapists or counselors who specialize in trauma and PTSD. Having a safe space to share your experiences and emotions can make a significant difference in your healing journey.

4. Practice mindfulness in daily tasks: Mindfulness doesn't always require dedicated meditation sessions. Incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine by being fully present in the moment. Whether it's preparing meals, playing with your children, or doing household chores, bring your awareness to the task at hand. Engage your senses, notice the details, and let go of distractions. This helps you create a sense of calm and brings more joy to your everyday experiences.

5. Set boundaries and practice saying no: Being a mother often comes with a long list of responsibilities and commitments. It's important to set boundaries and prioritize your well-being. Learn to say no when you feel overwhelmed or when a request doesn't align with your values and needs. Remember that it's okay to prioritize yourself and your healing journey.

6. Embrace self-discovery: Parenthood can sometimes make it easy to lose sight of our own identities. Take time to reconnect with yourself and explore who you are as a person. Engage in activities that ignite your passions and interests. Journaling, art, or even taking solitary walks can help you connect with your inner self and gain clarity about your desires and aspirations.

Remember, achieving mindfulness as a mother dealing with PTSD and exploring your identity is a process. It takes time, patience, and self-compassion. Be kind to yourself and celebrate every small step forward. You are a strong and resilient individual, and by prioritizing your well-being, you create a positive impact not only on yourself but also on your family.

Wishing you love and strength on your journey of mindfulness and self-discovery.

Love,
Daria
